Central American retailer performs SAP rollout in Ecuador with virtual implementation and distributed team in Latin America

One of our clients in Central America, an important retailer, needed to do a rollout in
Ecuador during the pandemic. For this it was necessary to organize teams virtually, with
collaboration and project control tools that allowed their integration, since they were
geographically distributed. The project development involved, among users and
consultants, people located in Ecuador, El Salvador, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Dominican
Republic, and Argentina.

The client has several subsidiaries and more than 150 points of sale in countries such as ElSalvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica.

They implemented SAP more than a decade ago, considering from the beginning the
management of their business in several Central American countries. When the company
decided to expand its business to Ecuador, they had to implement SAP solutions in rollout
mode, and for that they looked for a technological partner to take charge of the project.

They selected Novis to carry out the project, since it had a certain complexity, as it was required to adapt the entire operation to a new country, which was something
unprecedented for this client. It was an emblematic project and there were many eyes on
it. The solution proposed by Novis contemplated working only virtually and they were very
pleased with the result, as the project met the agreed plan in time and resources.

Specifically, this involved the creation of new companies in ERP SAP, considering a manufacturing and distribution center, plus a dozen branches, in addition to including Ecuador’s own localizations in the modules: Finance, Controlling, Projects, Materials Management, Production (discrete), Human Resources (payroll), Sales and Distribution. The company defined as a base the implementation carried out in El Salvador and asked to recycle, as much as possible, about 100 “zetas” that already existed. The project was completed flawlessly in time and resources and our client was pleased with the consulting team and their level of knowledge. He especially appreciated that, even when something was out of scope, he always had a friendly and purposeful response. Their functional users also received many recommendations for best practices for getting things done in SAP.

Working remotely was something that came with the pandemic, but it opened new possibilities that we continue to take advantage of.
